Mangapps Railway Museum

History

The museum was founded by John Jolly and his family, who moved to Mangapps Farm in 1984. John’s passion for railway memorabilia led to the acquisition of various artefacts, including the Brampton waiting shelter, which became the first major exhibit. As the collection grew, public interest increased, prompting the establishment of a dedicated museum. By 1987, the first locomotive, a British Railways Class 04 diesel shunter, arrived on-site, marking the beginning of the operational railway. The museum officially opened to the public in 1990, offering train rides and expanding its collection over the years.
