History
The museum’s roots trace back to the late 1960s when a group of enthusiasts, including schoolboys from High Storrs Grammar School in Sheffield, began collecting and preserving historic buses. This passion led to the formation of the Sheffield Omnibus Enthusiasts Society, which eventually evolved into the Sheffield Bus Museum Trust (SBMT) in 1986. The trust opened its first museum at the Tinsley Tram Sheds in Sheffield in 1987. However, due to deteriorating conditions, including flooding and structural issues, the museum relocated to a modern industrial unit in Aldwarke, Rotherham, in 2007, adopting the name South Yorkshire Transport Museum.
